John Sheahan KC

John has practised as a barrister for over three decades, with more than twenty years as a silk. His career has been focussed on complex commercial disputes.

John has acted for and advised major Australian and international firms in a wide variety of areas, including mining (BHP, South 32, Peabody), banking (ANZ, Westpac, CBA, Macquarie, RBS), engineering (CIMIC, Samsung, Jacobs), energy (AGL, INPEX, Energy Australia, Jemena, BHPB Worsley) and infrastructure (Transurban, Sunwater, Aurizon), and in numerous insurance claims (involving BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, Zurich, Lehman Bros Australia, CBA, Ensham).  He has acted as arbitrator and mediator in Australia and New Zealand and has appeared in arbitrations in Singapore, London and Australia.

Since 2014 John has been a member of the Australian Takeovers Panel, the primary body that decides disputes under Australia’s corporate takeovers laws. John is an associate member of South Square Chambers, London.
